Come on back to KCP for Teacher Pam's Retirement Party!

Hello, friends of Teacher Pam!

With the birth of her first granddaughter, our Teacher Pam decided it was time to retire and focus on one extraordinarily lucky little girl. We at the preschool are hoping to welcome this child to the preschool in a year or two, perhaps at times with her Granddaughter in tow! We miss our Teacher Pam very much.

And we can't let 27 (!) years of service at the school pass by unrecognized, so we're hoping you'll join us in a good, old-fashioned KCP bash, honoring this wonderful woman who has taught and given us all so very much!

Please join us on February 21st, from 6:00 - 8:30(ish), at the Celebration Space of the Lake Washington United Methodist Church (7525 132nd Ave NE, Kirkland, WA, 98033, the home of our preschool) for Teacher Pam's Retirement Party! Children are absolutely welcome, of course!

Because we're a Do-It-Yourself sort of school, we're going to ask for your help in making this night special for Teacher Pam.

If you can come...

  • Bring a dish to share: Because we're expecting a large crowd and probably won't have space for people to sit down to eat, please bring finger food. Appetizers and desserts are great! The party will have a travel theme, so extra credit goes to those who bring international food.
  • RSVP: If you think you and your family can make it, please let me know so we can get an approximate headcount. We need to know how many wax lips to buy, for one thing...more on that in a moment. You can even respond in the comments of this website if you'd like, but otherwise my email address and phone number are below.
And regardless of whether you can come...
  • Add to Teacher Pam's Scrapbook: We are assembling a scrapbook, and we would love it if you and your children could each contribute with your own page, with personal messages, photos, and any other KCP memorabilia. I have 8.5"x11" card stock sheets that I would be happy to mail you if you would like to make a page from your family.  I will also leave a pile of card stock at the front desk in the school entryway if you live nearby and would like to pick one up.  There will also be a collection box there for finished pages, or you could mail them back to me or bring them to the event. Please don't forget to add your name, and, if appropriate, the year you were at KCP. Also, if you can't make your page in advance, we'll have a scrapbooking station at the party.
  • Ask your children for advice: As you know, Teacher Pam loves to interview our children: the interview sheets she's given to mea at each of my kid's graduations are priceless. Now it's time to find out what our kids have to say to Teacher Pam. If you have a child under the age of 12 who was in Teacher Pam's class, would you mind asking them a few questions and sending me the answers? We're going to put together a little book of advice. (So that I have time to assemble these, please send all advice by February 17th.)

    • What should Teacher Pam do to celebrate being retired?
    • What fun things should Teacher Pam do with her granddaughter?
    • What should Teacher Pam not do with her granddaughter?
    • What is the most important thing to do when you are a grandma?
    • What do you think Teacher Pam will miss about being a teacher?
    • What is your favorite memory of being in Teacher Pam's preschool?
  • Pass the hat: Teacher Pam is looking forward to traveling in her retirement, so we would like to collect money to buy her a big, fat gift certificate for Costco Travel. (She's absolutely raved about her vacations through Costco.) She certainly deserves a nice vacation after caring for our children for 27 years, and I think if we all help, we can send her somewhere fantastic! If you would like to contribute, I'll be collecting money until February 19th. You can mail me checks (made out to me) or cash, or you can put them in my mailbox at the preschool. (Joey and Cheryl Geels.)
  • Spread the word: Please pass the word along to anyone you think would be interested and encourage them to come.  We're very much looking forward to a wonderful reunion with 27 years worth of alumni!
There are a few other things you should know if you're planning to attend:
  • We'll be having speakers and the gift presentation at 7:00.
  • As you probably well know, Teacher Pam has a deep-seated love of pranks and wax lips...and now it's her turn to be on the receiving end. So we'll be secretly passing out wax lips to all party attendees...shhh! When we bring her up on stage for the speeches, we'll ask her to close her eyes: at that moment, pucker up!
I very much hope to see you soon! And please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or requests for scrapbook materials or gift donations!

All my best,

Cheryl Geels
